1. Comic-con Scholarship for Two Emerging Artists

Airfare for a two day trip to San Diego, hotel accommodations, passes to Comic-con, $50 per diem for food and other expenses
Eligibility:
Any emerging comic artist located anywhere in the world who is over the age of 18 can submit a Portfolio for consideration.
Information:
San Diego, Comic-Con will be providing two scholarships to emerging artists - one web-based comic artist and one traditionally-based comic artist - who will be guests of deviantART at Comic-Con.
The chosen artists will spend two days at Comic-Con.

2. Emerging Writers Fellowship Fall 2012

The Writer’s Center, metropolitan Washington, D.C.’s community gathering place for writers and readers, will be accepting submissions for the competitive Emerging Writer Fellowships for Fall 2012. Fellows will have 1-2 single-author books published in a single genre, and no more than three published to their credit over the course of this fellowship.

3. The PEN Center USA Emerging Voices Fellowship

Eight month fellowship in Los Angeles for emerging writers of poetry, non-fiction or fiction... that lack access to traditional writing education and literary community
Proposal Requirements:
Fiction and nonfiction manuscripts should be double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins all around. You may format poetry manuscripts however you feel best represents the poetry you are submitting, as long as you do not exceed the page limit and the typed font is legible. Please number your pages.

Emerging Artist Fellowship

$5000 residency in an outdoor studio in New York City.

Applicants are eligible if they are not currently enrolled, in need of financial assistance, and not yet established as full artists.
General Information:
This sculpture park encourages the applicants that get in to install large-scale multi-media sculptures within the environment of the park, There seems to be an emphasis on establishing community bonds between artists, as well as between artists and visiting public.

This is a juried show for emerging artists competing for a solo show at the prestigious Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans. In its 16th year, this exhibition offers press coverage, recognition, gallery representation and a valuable tool to emerge into the art world. Judges include Eric Shiner, Director of the Andy Warhol Museum, Amanda Coulson, Director of the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, founder and Artistic Director of the VOLTA Fair (Basel, Switzerland and New York), and collector Thomas Coleman.

2. Disjecta Interdisciplinary Art Center: Portland, Oregon

General Information:
Disjecta is a nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon that chooses art proposals to fund and put in exhibitions. Work is chosen based on artistic strength and social relevance. Disjecta is an exhibition space that links the higher gallery scene in Portland to the grass-roots art movements. The work submitted is evaluated by a panel of artists, curators and art professionals who are diverse in their backgrounds and disciplines.

3. Washington Printmakers Gallery (WPG), Call for Submissions: National Small Works Exhibition, 2012

Eligibility:
Open to all artists 18 years or older and residing in the United States of America. Submitted work must be an original hand-pulled print made in the last two years. No digital prints or photographs.
General Information:
This is an annual exhibition that showcaes contemporary hand-pulled small sized prints. Maximum size of print is 170 square inches and it can be in any print medium. The grand prize winner is given a solo show at Washington Printmakers in August 2013. Other prizes include the Tran Van Dinh Award of $200 cash, the Utrecht Art Supplies Award of $150 in merchandise, and the Renaissance Graphics Supplies Award of $150 in Merchandise.

4. Roots Division’s Open Call: Introductions

Roots Division is a non-profit organization that puts out an annual Open Call for Introductions, an exhibition focused on showcasing talented emerging artists working in the Bay Area. Roots Division was founded in 2002 by three MFA graduates of the San Francisco Art Institute with the goal of creating a space of artistic expression that is accessible to the community. Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply. $15 application fee.

Cabrillo College Arts and Business Resources
These are available all year.
-Cabrillo Community College in Aptos, right next to Santa Cruz, offers a number of courses on the weekends geared towards establishing yourself as a successful artist and entrepreneur. These classes are open to anyone, and include subject matters such as how to sell art, what your art is worth, how to take advantage of social media sites to promote your work, and many more. These classes usually meet just one day, usually on weekend, and cost on average about $20. Cabrillo also has a business development department that does free consultations in person and over the phone. Whether you need help writing a business plan, already have one and are looking for fellow entrepreneurs who can help you launch a successful business, or just want some ideas for things you should be thinking about or investigating while considering launching a business however large it may be, Cabrillo offers experts who can help you. You will see in the middle of the page a button that says “request for service.” This will take you to a page where you can enter your information and a member from the department will contact you and help answer any questions you may have. They will also meet with you free of charge.

Creative Capacity Fund Quick Grant Program
Submission Deadline: the 15th of every month
The Quick Grant Program provides reimbursement funds to nonprofit organizations and individual artists in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles to enroll in workshops, attend conferences locally and nationally, and to work with consultants and coaches to build administrative and business skills and strengthen the economic sustainability of an organization or arts practice.
Individual artists may receive up to $500 and arts organizations up to $1,000 in professional development reimbursement funds for activities that will build administrative and business skills.

Eligibility:
$15 entry fee, after July 11 increases to $25 per entry. Contest is open only to individuals who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry and who do NOT reside in New Jersey, Vermont, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, the Province of Quebec, Sudan, or Syria. Employees of National Geographic Society, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related are not eligible.
General Information:

Last year nearly 13,000 images were submitted from all over the world. 2.) Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar :

Eligibility:
Our annual competition accepts only digital entries. Photographs may have been originally shot on film or with a digital camera, but the entries must be submitted in digital form. No slide or print entries are accepted. Photographs do not have to be published to qualify. You do not have to attend the Seminar to enter. Any photographer from any country is
eligible to enter.
All photographs must have been taken (except for picture story entries, please see next paragraph) between November 8, 2010 and November 7, 2012.
They do not allow any sort of manipulation to the content of an image, with the
exception of our photo illustration categories. Only basic color correction and
cropping are allowed to maintain the integrity and ethical standards of the industry.
It is photojournalists’ responsibilities to document and present images in an
honest manner. As a result, the judging panel or members of the board may
disqualify any images that do not meet the ethical standards put forth. Each
entrant may submit a maximum of 15 entries. Each picture story, which
may contain a maximum of 12 images, entered counts as one entry. A
portfolio entry does not count towards the 15 entry maximum.
No photograph previously entered in the Seminar competition may be entered
again. Photographs in a picture story entry, taken over a period of time that
begins before the eligible date but extends into the period of eligibility, may
be entered as long as they have not been entered in the Seminar’s competition
before.

Photomicrographs must be taken using a light microscope, such as one of the Nikon series of compound or stereoscopic microscopes. The use of Nikon equipment is not required.
